Registered agent

Virginia requires one. Virginia narrows the field unusually far: an individual agent must be a Virginia resident who is either a member or manager of the LLC (or of a related entity) or a member of the Virginia State Bar, and a business serving as agent must be authorized to transact business in Virginia and cannot be the LLC itself.

What you owe after year one

Payment is due on or before the last day of the twelfth month after the month of organization, and on that same date every year afterward; entities created by conversion or domestication can inherit a different date.

Worth knowing

The SCC's own web pages block automated retrieval, so the fee figures here come from the statutes published on Virginia's Law Portal (law.lis.virginia.gov). Unlike corporations, Virginia LLCs owe only the annual registration fee - there is no annual report document.
